It’s the weekend and decides to go out to a bar with your friends. How many drink cocktails in one night? Hopefully they are less than 6 because an investigation by the American Heart Association warns that drinking alcohol can cause heart attacks, strokes and cardiovascular accidents (CVA).
The study indicates that drinking alcohol can cause heart attacks and to ingest 6 to 9 drinks in a day doubles the risk and 19 to 30 drinks a week, chances are six times higher.
What happens in the body?
The researchers found that, in the span of one to three hours after drinking, a single dose of alcohol increases the heart rate and alters the normal heart rhythm, but at 24 hours, moderate alcohol consumption improves blood flow, coating function blood vessels and reduces clotting.
Differences between women and men
In another study, this was done by Harvard University found that women who drink more than 4 drinks in 2 hours and men who drink more than 5, were 72% more likely than others to have heart failure.
They also found that eating gin, vodka and whiskey drinks are most at risk; beer and wine showed a low risk.
